The Baroque Town, Eger, lies at the foot of the Northern Central Mountains in Hungary. Eger is the County Seat of Heves, the most outstanding touristic center of the Eastern region. The city remains a historic key in every-day common knowledge, primalily because the town was the scene of the honorable battle with the Turks in 1552, symbolizing national heroism and patriotism. Hewever, this is not the only reason why the town with a 1000 years of history worth to be highlighted for; the residents of Eger can rightfully be proud of their common efforts. It baroque one of the richest places in art as well as history, its squares and streetscan be discovered like an open book to its visitors. The baroque style downtown was built in the 1800s by the highly cultural Arcbispps of Eger, whose ideas were attained with the help of German, Austrian, Italian architects and great professionals from the city.
The Eger Fortress- In the Eger Fortress there is the Dobó István Castle Múzeum. On the two lower floors of the renovated Dobo bastion there are organized periodic exhibitions, the top floor takes place for several programs and conferences. The exshibitions show the history of the castle, the underground fortress system, and the medieval ways of pinishment and the equipments of these. Visit the house of Gárdonyi Géza, author of Eclipse of the Crescent Moon, fifty metres from the Castle’s northern entrance.

Among all, the primary sight in the city is the middle age castle where the Turks were defeated. Additionally, we have to mention the Minaret (Mecset) with its 40 m and 93 stairs is the oldast Turkish European monument located in the East, Built by Ottomans during the occupation.
At the heart ot the hictoric city, on Dobó square, one of the most stunning baroque church of Central Europe, the Padau Saint Antal church is located. Dobó square is the main square of the tawn. The statues on the square commemorate the glorous victory over Turkish numerial superoitity in 1552.
The bishop’s park ( Érsekkert) the 22-acre park dating from the era of Bishop Eszterházy preserves the traditions of French parkbuilding art. Football piches, tennis courts, and the stadium are in its south-western corner.
The nicest ornament of Eszterhazy square is the classicist archbishop cathedral, the second biggest church in the country.
The Basilica is the only Classicist building in Eger and the second largest church in Hungary. The Cathedral’s organ is the biggest one in the conuntry.
Lyceum –now it works as a college. Ir was built at the end of the 18th century, by Count Eszterházy Károly, to serve as a uniservity. Today is a teacher-training college mainly. Facing the Cathedral, the late baroque style Lyceum shall be visited with one of the most outstanding libraries in Hungary, the Archidiocesan Library. The building inner space is decorated by special woodwork and plendid ceiling frescos. Besides the 130 thousand of tome, the library is guarding such values as the first printed book in the country from 1473, the original letters of Kelemen Mikes alongside with the sole Mozart letter addressed to Hungary. In the tower of the Lyceum, the first Hungarian Astronomy Museum is opering, the ‘Spekula Observer’
Archbishop’s Palace Collection Center in toher name the Roman Catholic Archbishop’s Palace introduces the residencesm the 250 years history and the inestimable treasure of the Archbishops of Eger.
At the entrance of the County Seat building tourist can admire the Henrik Fazola ironmaster’s uniquely fine iron bent gates. On the courtyard you can get to know the 18th century county prison and the sport archieverments of Eger among the walls of the Museum of Sports.
